Student/Mentor Awards
IAHPERD sponsors a student/mentor program to stimulate the professional development of students and to increase student involvement in the association. Mentors are expected to support and guide the student during early affiliation with IAHPERD. Since first implemented in 1992, over 150 awards have been provided. The student receives $400 and the mentor receives $300. Students from elementary, high school and university, including both undergraduate and graduate students, have been recipients.

The student receives $400 and the mentor receives $300. Students from elementary, high school and university, including both undergraduate and graduate students, have been recipients.
Any type of project is eligible for a student/mentor award. Projects have included student thesis research, independent studies, curriculum development, and teaching/coaching assistance. Students give a scholarly presentation describing the shared project at the annual IAHPERD State Convention. Applications from elementary, middle and high school students are strongly encouraged.
The application deadline is July 10 for the ensuing November convention.
Applications must be submitted in the body of an email, not as an attachment and not as regular mail. The email MUST have as the subject Student Mentor 20??, with ?? being the year of application (ie Student Mentor 2007). Completed applications must include:
Name & email address of the student
Name, email address & phone number of the mentor
A typed, single-spaced description of the project describing the student's involvement in the project, written by the mentor (less than 250 words).
A separate section written as follows (this will appear exactly in the convention program if selected as a recipient)

Completed applications must be emailed by JULY 10. The provided email addresses of the student and the mentor must be working to ensure correspondence will be correctly received during the fall semester leading up to the convention. Student and mentor must both register and attend the presentation session of the project at the November IAHPERD convention; failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of the award.
