Eastern District of IAHPERD

Eastern District wishes to express our appreciation and thanks to IAHPERD, other Districts and individuals who made a donation to our Eastern District’s Challenge Fund. Your dollars helped to purchase equipment in our first order in January.

The first order was for $3033. in equipment ranging from nerf balls and hula hoops to cones and hockey sets. The day the 11 cases of equipment arrived in Louisiana I got a phone call from 3 ecstatic teachers who were thrilled over the contents. We made a big dent in their wish list and will make another dent with an order in the spring with later donations. Thank you for your support in our effort.

It is not too late to be part of the HELP!!! YOU CAN STILL MAKE A PERSONAL DONATION TO HELP OTHER PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND STUDENTS!!!

If you are interested in joining the efforts of Eastern district, your generosity would be greatly appreciated. The funds will be used to replace and add to the remaining equipment of PE programs in Louisiana schools.

EASTERN DISTRICT is sending another order this Spring for needed equipment to schools in parishes around New Orleans area affected by Hurricane Katrina. We are in contact with Physical Education specialists in schools with Physical Education Departments in need of assistance. Not one of them had been contacted by others to help with equipment . We sent equipment to schools in Jefferson, Orleans, and St. Bernard Parishes. We have local contacts with the schools to help us and they have prioritized their needs. Our efforts are having an impact on these teachers and making it easier for them to re-establish their curriculums with needed equipment. Equipment was and will be purchased and shipped free from Palos Sports. We have Shirley Burns to thank for helping us in submitting the order and taking care of that end of the process.

The IAHPERD Representative Assembly passed a motion in November to match Eastern District’s $1000.00 for equipment. Northeastern district accepted the Challenge as did Northern District. The JRFH/HFH task force provided the jump ropes on the schools’ wish lists. Individuals making a donation include Sue Myers, Kathleen Delaney, Garrick Balk, and Joy Brabec. Thank you all!
