Enhancement Grant Application

All IAHPERD members in good standing may apply for this grant. This is defined as having your membership current (paid) through the application and award period (the day your receive your check).  

If awarded, you must claim your funds prior to the next application date. If a September 15th application receives funding, you have until February 15th to claim the funds. If a February 15th application receives funding, you have until September 15th to claim the funds. Any unclaimed funds will roll back into the Committee's budget.

Decisions on September application occur during the November Executive Board Meeting. Decisions on February applications occur during the April Executive Board meetings. Awardees are notified via e-mail the week following the board meeting.

The application should include the following information:

Title page consisting of name, address, school name, school district, phone, e-mail address, IAHPERD membership number, and any other sources of funding (e.g. school district or PTA will match funds).

  • Describe the project for which grants are being sought.
  • Indicate which Program Enhancement Grant priorities are being met by proposal. The priorities are:
  1. To enhance, initiate or continue an educational HPERD program.
  2. Advocating the elements IAHPERD promotes and stands for.
  3. A public relations activity to promote the association.
  4. A media event to promote the HPERD profession or its objectives.
  5. Short-term loans to districts, committees, or members.
  • Provide rationale and justification for why IAHPERD should fund the proposal.
  • Provide an itemized and prioritized budge. A justification statement for each item listed in the budget must be included. Include sources for the prices listed.

Criteria to be considered when proposal is evaluated:

  • Must be word-processed or typed. Proposal is limited to a maximum of 4 double spaced pages (not including title page).
  • An original and six copies must be submitted prior to the application deadline. Deadlines are Feb. 15 and Sept. 15 of each year. Funding is determined at April and November Executive Board meetings, respectively.
  • Only IAHPERD members in good standing may receive funding from this grant.
  • First time applicants will be given priority. Those who have previously received funding will only be considered if funds remain after first time applicant funding needs are met.
  • The Program Enhancement Grant Review Committee reviews all grant applications and makes recommendations to the IAHPERD Executive Board. The Executive Board has final say on whether the grants are funded or disallowed.
  • Recipients must return unused funds within one year of the receipt of the award.
  • All funds must be used only for approved expenditures. Any questions should be referred to the Chairperson of the Program Enhancement Review Committee.
  • Receipts and a summary of the outcomes of the project must be submitted to the Program Enhancement Committee Chairperson within 1.5 years after receiving the award.
  • All recipients must either present a summary of their project outcomes at the IAHPERD Convention or in an article in the IAHPERD Journal within 3 years after receipt of the award. Failure to do so will automatically exclude the applicant from future IAHPERD funding.

Program Enhancement

Do you have an idea for your program that will greatly benefit your students but don't have the funds needed for equipment? Apply for an IAHPERD Program Enhancement Grant and you may get the money needed to get your program going.  All IAHPERD members in good standing may apply for this grant. Grants are awarded to multiple applicants and at two seperate times each school year. Only applications that follow the guidelines perfectly, will be used for consideration. So please make sure to follow the guidelines.

Program Enhancement Grant Application Guidelines

1. The Program Enhancement Grants are designed to provide funding for projects in one of six areas:

  • Emergency needs of IAHPERD
  • Advocacy projects
  • Public relations projects
  • Educational program enhancement
  • Media events
  • Short term loans

2. All IAHPERD members in good standing may apply for this grant.

3. The grant deadlines are Feb 15 and Sept 15.

4. A Program Enhancement Grant Review Committee reviews all grant applications and makes recommendations to the IAHPERD Executive Board. The Executive Board has final say on whether the grants are funded or disallowed.

5. To apply for a Program Enhancement Grant, submit:

  • six copies of an application consisting of a sheet containing contact information for the applicants,
  • a brief statement explaining the purpose of the project and a justification for why IAHPERD should support it,
  • an itemized and prioritized budget, 
  • and a justification statement for each item listed in the budget.

6. If the grant application is approved, all recipients must perform a post project presentation of outcomes to IAHPERD either through an article published in the IAHPERD Journal or by a presentation at the IAHPERD conference. Failure to do so will automatically exclude all applicants from future IAHPERD funding.

Scholarships

The following are IAHPERD scholarships that are available for Physical Education, Health Education and Recreation students who qualify. IAHPERD will award five scholarships of $1,500.00 each , and one scholarship of $2,000.00 to the student who qualifies as the most outstanding applicant.

The scholarships are awarded to junior or senior level undergraduate students who are enrolled as a major in professional programs of health, physical education, dance or recreation. The scholarship will be awarded at the state convention in November at Pheasant Run Resort, St. Charles, Illinois.

The application form provides specific directions about applying for the scholarship. The Scholarship and Recognition Committee of IAHPERD will make every effort to evaluate all applications fairly and objectively. Materials for the four scholarships must be postmarked by June 2nd.

Scholarship Eligibility

In order to be eligible for an IAHPERD scholarship, one must:

  1. Be a full-time undergraduate student, majoring in the area of health,
    physical education, recreation, and/or dance. This includes a major
    referred to by other titles, such as Kinesiology, Human Performance,
    Sports Administration, Athletic Training, etc.
  2. Be a full-time undergraduate student during the fall semester in which
    the scholarship is awarded.
  3. Be a student member of IAHPERD since December 1 of the year
    previous to the year the scholarship is awarded.
  4. Attend a college or university within the State of Illinois

In order to be eligible for an IAHPERD scholarship, one may:

  1. Have their home residence outside the State of Illinois.
  2. Have previously earned a bachelor’s degree in a different major,
    and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an undergraduate
    program as stated above.
  3. Have been a previous IAHPERD recipient, with a maximum of
    receiving a scholarship two times.
  4. Be a recipient of the top scholarship award only one time.

Scholarship Application

Please include the following items in your packet for the IAHPERD scholarship.

  1. Three copies of a one page, double spaced cover letter of introduction which includes your IAHPERD membership number – the membership number may be acquired from the IAHPERD Executive Director at 217-245-6413 or by emailing iahperd@gmail.com.
  2. Three copies of a resume that includes the following (3-page maximum)
    1. Involvement in service projects, extracurricular activities, university or departmental committees, campus organizations, community involvement, and participation in inclusion and diversity activities.
    2. Involvement in academic activities, certifications, honors, professional presentations, recognitions, other profession organizations, and other achievements.
    3. Department chairperson’s name and contact information.
    4. Chosen major and minor (if any).
    5. Reasons for selecting your major.
    6. Aspirations for the future.
    7. Include your summer and fall address, phone number(s), and e-mail address.
  3. One copy of an official College/University transcript.  The transcript must include the spring 2017 semester grades. Also, if you attended another college or university previously, such as a community college, please forward that transcript also.
  4. Two letters of recommendations in individually sealed envelopes.
